I am taking on freelance projects to fill up my summer calendar. If you have a project that you need help with or you need someone to maintain your current little slice of the Interwebs, then make sure to shoot me an email! No project is too small for this Level 10 Web Shaman!
Also, before anyone asks, yes those are blueprints for the Batmobile. Why? Well I added them because those are blueprints to something awesome and I will build you something awesome… maybe even more awesome than the Batmobile. Think about it.
My recent side project, TinyComics, went live over the weekend. For those that are unaware, I’m a huge comic book nerd, and so TC was built because their was not a mobile resource available for me to find out which new comic books were coming out this week. Sure there were sites I could go too but none of them were formatted for the small screen which made scrolling and shrinking pages kind of tedious and bothersome.
I built TinyComics with simplicity in mind and is compatible with both the Android and Apple iPhone mobile browsers. When you visit TC, or visit it via the Google Android application that is now live in the Android Market, you are dumped into the most current week of comic goodness. From there you can select a publisher/manufacturer of comics, trade paper backs, hard covers, toys and statues to display all of the items said publisher/manufacturer is releasing that week.
Each item contains a description for that product as well as various information such as the publisher, release date, MSRP (manufacturer suggested retail price), and even links to where you can go and purchase that item you are looking at!
TC’s database is updated daily so make sure to check it out often! If you have any suggestions for features you would like to see added in this handy web application then make sure to send us a tweet on Twitter @tinycomics
Engadget has some video up of the Palm Pre running a 3D game in the classic emulator mode. If they are able to run 3D while emulating an older operating system, just imagine what WebOS will be capable of in the non-emulating mode. Too bad Palm still has not approved my development application. I really want to get my hands on the Mojo SDK.
So I got bored yesterday on my lunch break and I wanted to build something with PhoneGap, the cross-platform mobile development framework that allows you to create HTML, CSS, and javascript applications for the iPhone and Android platforms.
At first I had no idea what I wanted to build but I did know the main requirement was that I could not spend more than a few hours building it. Deciding that I should build something that would bring joy to my little heart, I decided to throw together this little bundle of joy which is all about Boot Mario!
You do remember Boot Mario, don’t you? Plump little Italian dude hopping around in a giant green boot; sometimes wearing a frog suit, sometimes dressed up as a giant flying raccoon? Yep! That’s totally him. Now you can have him hopping around on your Android handset! Just search for “Boot Mario” in the Android Market.
So I bet you’re asking what exactly the application “BootMario” does, huh? Well, it is a Mario jump simulator. You have Boot Mario hanging out in his cute little boot and whenever you click him, he jumps, and those jumps are counted on the top left hand corner of the screen.
If you dig into the settings you can then change things such as which costume Boot Mario is wearing or what scenery he is causing ruckus in front of.
If people like this application I plan on adding more backgrounds to it as well as some audio clips, that currently PhoneGap does not have enabled. Enjoy!
One of the things I have always wished I could have but was never available when I needed it was the ability to use CSS to have multiple background images in my markup. Browsing around the news sites this morning I ran across this post on Ajaxian that stated in the new nightly builds of Firefox my wish has been granted! While I am sure it will take a while to catch on or become a feature that is usable in all browsers, it does make me excited for what the future holds for me as a developer. No more will have to use nested DIV containers to accomplish this seemingly easy to accomplish task.
You can view some code example by pointing your browsers to the Ajaxian post here.
