I am a Web Developer, Consultant, and Microsoft MVP (Most Valuable Professional) based out of the City of Roses - Portland, Oregon. I have over 15 years of education and experience in the art of Web Design and Development and have no plans to stop my quest for knowledge anytime soon. Over the past year I have been moving into the mobile Internet space and started developing applications for the Google Android platform.

Palm Announces WebOS Platform

“Palm WebOS, Palm’s next generation operating system, integrates the power of a window-based operating system with the simplicity of a browser. The user experience is designed around multitasking, and makes it easy to run background applications, switch between applications in a single step, and handle interruptions and events without losing context. Using WebOS, you’ll be able to develop fast (and beautiful) applications.”

I love all of my old Windows Mobile devices and I totally dig my Google Android device but I can say in all honesty that I have never been as excited for a mobile platform as I am for WebOS. As a web developer the thought of being able to branch out from the Interwebs to a pocket without having to worry about data speeds or data connectivity is just awesome. Also the type of applications that can be built that normally wouldn’t be built is just glee inducing not to mention that we would be able to build these new applications in HTML5 and not have to worry about which browser someone is using to see the work created.

I’m currently sitting here grinning like a six year old boy that just stumbled across a jar of cookies and gummy worms.

I have to admit I wasn’t really expecting Palm to bring us anything exciting. In fact I already counted them down and out, but with this new WebOS platform they have the opportunity to be contenders again. Good work Palm! Please send me a development device. :)
