For those of you that have been wondering where I have been hiding lately, I have been locked behind closed doors as the marketing agency I work for has frantically worked our rears off for one of our newest clients, Jenny Craig.
For the recent announcement of Queen Latifah being Jenny Craig’s newest spokewoman, we launched a new micro-site on Jenny Craig’s server. This consists of some pretty nifty Flash development provided by two of my favorite Flash developers (and friends) Robb Milne (of The Freemartins fame) and Leslie Lothamer. All of the XHTML/CSS stuff was done by yours truly of course.
All in all, this was a pretty fun piece to work on. Enjoy the screencap below!

“Intel has just announced and released source code for their Open-FCoE project, which creates a transport allowing native Fibre Channel frames to travel over ordinary ethernet cables to any Linux system. This extremely interesting development will mean that data centers can lower costs and maintenance by reducing the amount of Fibre Channel equipment and cabling while still enjoying its benefits and performance. The new standard is backed by Cisco, Sun, IBM, EMC, Emulex, and a variety of others working in the storage field. The timing of this announcement comes as no surprise given the uptake of 10-Gb Ethernet in the data center.”
I totally made this site. Fin.

So I got bored the other day… really bored. After spending the whole day working on client projects, I felt the need to just relax and have a little fun. A person can only tolerate starting at a computer monitor for so long before they start pulling their hair out. Realizing that I haven’t had a chance to sit down and do anything fun, useless and amusing with CSS lately I decided to crack open the old sketch book and go to town.
The first page I opened to had a little Super Mario Bros. warp pipe doodle on it that I drew one day in a meeting. Seeing as how Super Mario Bros. 3 is one of my all time favorite games, I thought it would be fun to pay tribute to Mario and Nintendo with a series of pixel art like images created using nothing more than XHTML and CSS. Yep, you read that right! Not one image was harmed (or used) in the creation of these pieces!
When I have more time I want to throw together a nice tutorial for others to have fun with this. For those of you that like to dabble on your own, please feel free to take a look at the code. Pretty much all I did was draw an image on a grid and than recreate the grid with a series ofdiv containers. I could have used tables but I felt using the divs would be more fun. So far I have not found any usefulness for this latest project other than making me smile.
For today, I’ll leave you with a Super Mario Bros. (NES) Warp Pipe as well as a Super Mushroom. Be on the lookout for more pieces to be released by weeks end!

A little over a year after the initial launch of RoccStar Accessories, I am pleased to announce the launch of RoccStar Accessories v2.0. This last year has been nothing short of incredible and the long hard journey to get to where we are today has been one of the best experiences of my life.
If you are unfamiliar, RoccStar Accessories is the brainchild of my fiancee and myself after we parted ways with a Cingular/AT&T Wireless Premier retailer here in the Portland area. Everything was pretty tight, finance wise, for a while but with a little hard work and a ton of shameless self-promoting, we were able to build a pretty satisfying business that strives on prompt, kind, friendly customer service with a hint of fair priced accessory goodness.
In the spirit of some more shameless self-promoting I am presenting all of you with this nifty coupon code to get 10% off of any new order. Also, as always, if you purchase two of the same accessory or two accessories from the same phone category, you automatically qualify for an additional 10% off.
Coupon Code: NerdOfSteel
Also, for your enjoyment, I have included a screenshot of the new design below! See you guys at the new site!
